Before Kenny Rogers Was ‘The Gambler’ He Was Singing Lead for the First Edition
Kenny Rogers will be in concert in the grandstand at the South Dakota State Fair on September 4th. I'd say it's a pretty safe bit that you'll hear most of the Kenny hit's that have since become some of the biggest hit's in country music history, great classic's like 'Coward Of The County', 'Lucille' and, of course, the entire grandstand crowd will be singing right along with 'The Gambler'.
But many of us know that, long before Kenny was 'gamblin', he was the lead singer for the great pop band 'The First Edition' (later to become Kenny Rogers and The First Edition').
So let's take a trip back to a world before we met Lucille or sat on that train with the Gambler, back to 1967. Kenny and the band had a huge pop hit called '(Just Dropped In) To See What Condition My Condition Is In'.
I'm not sure, but I think this kid could make it in country music!
